Universal Pictures Films

Universal Pictures Creative Operations creates a host of print and digital work ranging from outdoor advertisements, to movie theater banners, to dimensional applications in space. I was tasked to work on multiple movie campaigns simultaneously at all points in the design process, from conceptualizing initial comps to preparing final mechanicals for print.

Rendering of Universal Pictures Logo in outer space.

Outdoor

A large portion of movie marketing spend is directed to the design and production of outdoor advertisements. These assets include billboards, bus and subway adhesives, bus shelter posters, bus benches, subway 2-sheets, wild postings (adhered to temporary construction walls), paintings on buildings, and other unique placements.

Digital

Digital assets include movie theater website banners, banner ads, web skins, and premiere evites. Premiere evites were made primarily for internal use across NBCUniversal and associated partners. Therefore, we had slightly more creative freedom to compose layouts outside of the title's set look and feel.

Installations

Our department was presented with unique tasks, such as decorating the entryway into Universal Pictures' ballroom for CinemaCon, an industry convention hosted in Las Vegas. In 2017, Universal's presentation of its slated movies was scheduled earliest in the day amongst all of the studios. I proposed to design donut walls for convention-goers to grab a quick bite for breakfast before proceeding into the ballroom. Each wall was designed with a specific title treatment and background texture. The donuts were also designed to match. (This was a hit amongst attendees, I'm happy to report.)

I also had the opportunity to design three-dimensional window installations for NBC buildings across the states, including the NBCUniversal Experience Store at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Motion

For conventions and town hall meetings, executives requested storyboarding for keynote presentations. I designed frame by frame concepts for the slide animations, which were later rendered by the motion graphics department.
